It is located in Auckland, New Zealand.
Photo was taken early one foggy morning, I had planned this photo and had waited for that morning for a long time...I remember waking up, seeing the fog, getting all excited and driving quickly to One Tree Hill before the fog passed. Nowadays I guess you'd just apply an effects filter
Photo was taken in the 1980s. The tree was later cut down in 1994 by an activist as a protest, and hasn't been replaced.

U2 wrote this about Greg Carroll, a Māori from New Zealand who became an assistant and close friend of Bono after he met the band in 1985 while they were in NZ. He was killed a year later when he was hit by a car while running an errand for Bono on Bono's motorcycle. The album The Joshua Tree, as well as this song, are dedicated to Greg Carroll
